
Biography
Kim Dixon has 20 plus years of teaching experience in the areas of English and Speech for the Beaumont Independent School District. In addition, she’s worked with the AVID Program for 10 years as an AVID teacher and was the AVID Coordinator for the last 3 years. Kim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Communications and teaching certifications in English and Speech. In addition, she is also a licensed Massage Therapist and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
In her spare time she is an avid reader. In addition, as a Free Lance writer she has written articles for “Altar Call Magazine”, “CUSH Magazine”, and “Woman’s Daily Magazine.” She founded an organization on her high school campus called “Sister to Sister” to help empower young girls to learn the importance of etiquette, self respect and learning to love and embrace the skin they are in. The group also discusses why self-esteem issues exist, what to do to build self-esteem and more importantly, learning why it’s important to demand respect from young men.
Kim is a single Mom with 2 daughters. She feels this is why she has been able to relate to so many of her students. She's familiar with the struggles equated with single parenting. Jordan is a senior at Oklahoma University where she received The Dell Scholarship-- $20,000, a laptop, printer and book voucher every semester, the $60,000 Discover Card Scholarship, The Texas Legislative Black Caucus Scholarship-- $1500, 100 Black Women Association Scholarship-- $1000, financial aid and The OU Cares Scholarship which varies between $1500-$5,000 per semester. By obtaining these scholarships and other funds, it definitely made her transition into college stress free as far as money was concerned. Her oldest daughter Taylor became a Gates Millennium Scholar in 2009 and about $10,000 in local scholarships. She attended Lamar University for a year. She presently attends North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and is pursuing a degree in Education.
